Used AIM 4170 with latest software from your website on Toshiba laptop running Vista. So far, no problems.

laschwer,
I have a Toshiba laptop with Vista Home Premium. I can not get the computer to see the 4170.
Have loaded 650 and have Radio Shack Serial Bus adapter with software installed. Computer says device is working properly.
Increased Baud rate in device manager to 57600; rebooted and still no results.
Was there anything in particular that you remember that I might have overlooked.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Tim, I have my 4170 working great on the Toshiba with Vista Home Premium. What I found is that Vista tries to use its own drivers. I use the USB-Serial adapter from AIM, but had a heck of a time at first. Just go ahead and install it. Then, go into device mgr and "update driver", point to the driver on CD or wherever. That should overlay the Vista driver with the right one. Its important that you don't let Vista check Update at MS for any reason. Make it do everything manually. I find that "Find Port" in 650 does not always work with these adapters, so just start the program, dismiss any error messages, and specify the port manually in the AIM software. Use File->Exit out of the program. Bring up the program (version 650) again, and it should see the port.
Good luck. -Del

Has anyone used the AIM4170 with Vista yet? -- Bob Last weekend I got a new Sony FZ320 notebook with Vista Home Premium OS. It appears that XP is ancient history in the computer stores in the Dallas area. Despite my reservations about Vista, it looks ok so far. To start the AIM program I used the following steps (other procedures may work, but this is what I did first and it worked fine): I'm using the usb adapter from Array Solutions for use with the AIM. 1. Leave the USB adapter disconnected from the computer. 2. Power up the AIM and connect the RS232 connector to the AIM. 3. Plug the USB connector into the computer. 4. When the Vista "new hardware" dialog pops up in a few seconds, click the option to install a new driver. I let it use it's own driver. (I didn't use the CD for the usb adapter.) 5. A little icon in the lower right corner spun around for a minute or two. 6. A message box popped up saying it was installed ok on COMM 4. 7. Started the AIM program. 8. Click Setup -> Find comm port It found comm 4 and worked fine after that. Good Luck --73/Bob

I was enjoying using my AIM4170 on my XP-base computer when I "upgraded" to a faster computer with Vista (64 bit), then the USB-to-serial drivers provided with the AIM4170 would not install correctly despite all the previously suggested methods. Then I found that the Byterunner website says that Y-105 drivers are available for Vista 32 bit but not 64 bit. Now what? -- Doug
