Hi Aim users,
is there a *direct* way to open a *.scn file (e.g.received by email) which is stored in a different folder than the aim.exe file? Right click on the file and "open with" ->aim.exe does open the aim program but not the file itself. The only workaround I've found is to move or copy the *.scn file into the same folder where the aim.exe file is located.

Clemens,
You can open it with NotePad on a PC.

John,
thanks that's interesting information. Now I can see why those files are so incredible small.
Is there also a way to open those scn files *with the AIM program*when they are outside the folder where the aim.exe is located?

You might try adding the directory where the aim.exe file is located to the path statement. You will probably also need to associate the .scn extension with the aim.exe program. If you have an .scn file available (not in the program directory), you can right click on it, and select Open. If Windows doesn't have a program associated with .scn files, it will display a dialog box asking you to specify which program should be used to open files with the .scn suffix. If the aim.exe program isn't listed, click on the "Other" button, and browse to the directory where the aim.exe file is located, and select it. Be sure the "always use this program to open these files" box is checked.
I'm at work at the moment, so I can't actually test this, but I think it should be worth a try. - Chris, N7AMG

Hi Chris,
the procedure you describe is just the one which I meant in my first posting and which unfortunately doesn't work. The Aim program itself does open after doing this procedure but it does not open the file (outside the folder with the aim.exe file) it was associated with.

Hi Clemens,
Unfortunately, you are correct. Even if the Windows path statement contains the path to the aim.exe program, and the file association is present, it won't open the desired .scn file. The program appears to look for the LastGraph.scn file in the directory where the .scn file is located, and if it doesn't find it, it opens to a blank display. If there is a LastGraph.scn file in the directory, it opens that graph, even if you doubleclick on a different .scn file. I suspect the program code would have to be altered in order to allow this functionality.
