I've heard that the AIM program may not work with Vista Home Basic. Has anyone had experience with this particular version?
I've also heard that some versions of Vista are ok. Any comments pro or con will be appreciated.

I've tried it with Vista Home Premium (with the Aero interface turned off) and the only problem I've encountered seems to be realated to the USB com port issue you've mentioned before. While making a measurement, the machine will just hang, requiring a power-down to reset it.
I run as an Administrator.

I now seem to have this new Vista-based laptop working well with the AIM4170. I believe that the problem with hanging was being caused by an issue with the FTDI-based USB serial port adapter. FTDI has noted that some USB hosts are sensitive to noise on the USB data lines and that putting a 47pf cap from each data line to ground can eliminate the problem. Seems so for me.
I aso tried a Keyspan USB serial port and, while it didn't hang the machine, characters seemed to get dropped under some conditions.

I know this is a old post, but when it happens to mine I unplug the usb cable. That releases the port and lets me restart the program, negating the need to reboot.
