I have just obtained an AIM 4170 and having some problems with basic antenna scanning for SWR etc. All the software and drivers installed ok. Scanning cables for length are fine but when i attempt to scan my antenna (G5RV type) I get a straight line across the top of the graph and the SWR shows 999.000, I suspect I have not set my software parameters correctly. I would appreciate any guidance on settings

Make sure the value of Zref is set to the correct value for the reference impedance. This is used for calculating SWR and Return Loss. A typical value is 50 ohms but it can be changed to correspond to the transmission line.
After calibrating, scan the resistor used for calibration. If it is a 50 ohm resistor and Zref is set for 50 ohms, then SWR = 1.0 all across the graph.
Note: the value of Zref can be changed without having to recalibrate.
Make sure your antenna connector is making good contact. If the connection to the transmission line is open, the SWR may be greater than 999.

Fortunately the seller has agreed to refund. Reg
