it's been awhile since i updated to new software. the setup is:
usb trendnet dongle os windows vista ultimate box AIM4170 ser# 7034
i am unable to calibrate the box, some weird happenings on calibration includes the hardware is needed (although the 4170 is connected), lock ups, restarting the pc, etc. i tried changing the port baud rate to all selectable baud in between 9600 to 57600 but the same happens. most of the time the pc restarts by itself.
it was usable to the aim6xx software, did not use aim7xx, noticed the intermittent lock ups in aim824. now even the aim824 is unusable...
any suggestions?
thanks. k6now

The program is not communicating with the pc and it's in the demo mode. That's why the message "hardware is required" appears when you try to cal. Does your AIM still work with the earlier program version "AIM6xx" ? You might try another computer too. The program will run from a flash drive so it can be tested easily on another computer even though you don't plan to use it on a regular basis. The best test is to connect it to a computer that has a serial rs232 port. Sometimes the usb driver gets messed up and it's necessary to uninstall it and reinstall. There are some tips for dealing with the usb interface on this page: www.w5big.com/FAQ.htm-- 73/Bob
