This new version addresses the problem noted by Dan concerning the SWR and Return Loss plots not being processed optimally by the smoothing algorithm. Smoothing also affects the Zplots calculation of transmission line parameters near frequencies that are multiples of one-quarter of a wavelength. For the TL parameters, leave smoothing off. The csv file data will look better now for most of the Zplots post-processing functions. In cases where it may be better to do a scan without smoothing, Dan will issue an alert in Zplots. www.w5big.com/prog_update.htm73/Bob

I have AIM_70C.exe in my Program Files (x86)\AIM folder for Win7 on my new laptop. And want to do the upgrade to the new version. I'm concerned about wiping out some files or doing something wrong.
Is there a write-up on how to properly do the upgrade OR is the upgrade automatic? Should I save the new ZIP file in my AIM folder and then do the extract to the same folder? Or what?

Hi Dennis,
The new version will not affect any other versions on your computer. You can have as many versions as you like and they will not interfer with each other. I recommend putting them in separate folders. You can still use calibration files that you have already created. You don't have to copy the cal files, just locate them with the "Files" -> "Load Cal File" menu and the new program will remember it. You can also use config files that you have customized.
When running your present version click "Setup" -> "Enter comm port" to see what the present comm port value is. That is the number to enter when starting a new version of the program.
1. Create a new folder for the latest program. 2. Download the zip file. 3. Unzip it in this folder. 4. Click the exe file. When it starts up it will probably say the AIM is not responding since the comm port hasn't been set yet. 5. Click "Setup"->"Enter comm port" and enter the correct value. 6. Load your latest cal file. "Files" ->"Load cal file" 7. Load the config file: "Files" ->"Load config file" 8. Close the AIM program and then restart it. (you don't have to reboot).
Now the program is ready to go.
If you find something that seems to not be working right, you can close the new program and go back to the earlier version to check it.
