is there anything special hardware inside for a firmware upgrade? just wondering. seems to this thing can do more... just asking??? thanks, cj

The firmware in the microcontroller has fairly basic functions for collecting the raw data. The raw data is then sent to the pc. If you have ideas for some new features, let me know and I'll see about including them in the pc program.

ideas for some new features I would like to see back port on VNA outputting trigger signal on every frequency sweep , so VNA can be used as sweep signal generator and oscilloscope as detector

The sync capability is in the firmware but the function was accidentially left off the menu. I'll include that in the next update in a few days. Pin 2 of the expansion port connector will output a pulse at the start of each scan, like the AIM4170 does now.
The expansion port is also used for the new six channel multiplexer which is very handy when tuning up antenna arrays. This is featured in the latest edition of the book "Low Band DXing" by ON4UN.
