Has anyone noticed when using the "Distance to Fault" option with this new version the dialog box that asks for Velocity factor of cable goes is hid by the main program screen? The main program screen must be minimized to access the Velocity Factor dialog box? Everything works then.
OR is that the "refer to antenna" function? I was working with 4170 last night and used both functions - one of them was where the velocity factor dialog box would be covered by the main program screen.
Just wondering if it was just me, or anyone else had this problem.
All in all, THANK YOU for a great fun "toy" {smiling happy}

Yep, it's the "Distance to Fault" option that gives the problem - OR am I the only one with this problem? Didn't show up until version A, and is still there with Version B.. Interesting the way it happens, when this option is chose, the Velocity Factor dialog box goes below AIM main display. The icon is visible on the task bar, clicking the icon on task bar the dialog box will appear, but as the mouse cursor is moved to screen, the dialog box again goes below the 4170 main screen. when the main screen is minimized, everything works good. The dialog box will stay on top of other programs, only the 4170 main display.
Is this only on my computer? OR is anyone else having this same issue with the new releases?

Hi Ken,
That dialog box is identical to what was being using in version 684 about two years ago. It hasn't changed in a long time. That is a very strange result. Does that happen with any other dialog boxes? I can't reproduce it and I don't remember ever seeing anything like that. I guess you didn't have a Smith chart displayed? The Smith chart does cover up other sub-windows and dialog boxes. If someone know how to make dialogs and message boxes have precedence over windows, please let me know by email. I'm using Win 2K and Win 7 (64bit) now. In the past I've also used XP and Vista. -73/Bob

Thank you for the response - I'm runnng XP Pro SP2.
Nope, this is not an issue with any other dialog box, and Smith Chart is not open. I should have mentioned, the very first dialog box of Distance to Fault stays on top as it should, click OK, and the velocity Factor box goes below the 4170 main screen.
I just an interesting thing - each time I click on the "Distance to Fault" from menu bar, a new "Distance to Fault" box will open, then click OK, and a new Velocity Factor box will open below the main screen with the icon showing on task bar.
It must be something on my system that is causing the error - normallyl in Visual Basic programming there is a check box to make the window be the current.... or something like that - been a LONG time since I did any VB programming.
I think I forgot to mention, this has only came up since the new revision, with the 4170c ver 5.7 date=may 30 version of the program the "Distance to Fault" works just as it should. That's what caught my attention, been working, then with new revision, starting with "832A" the problem showed up.
Bob, since I'm the only one with the problem, don't spend a lot of time - there are MORE MUCH more important things for you to work on with these programs..... TDR functionality mentioned in a previous post - Now THAT would be NICE!
Again, let me say it's not a really big deal as I'm the only person with this issue - I can minimize the main screen, enter the velocity factor for the cable and it works just fine.

I uploaded version AIM_832D. This fixes a problem with the Point Data function and I also made a small change to the Distance to Fault function that may take care of the dialog box problem. The Smith charts have been enhanced so they look better when printed. A few other minor issues have been cleaned up too.
Don't hesitate to notify me of any problems. The program has been revised quite a bit recently and there is still room for improvement.

Thank you Bob - just amazing how much fun this thing is. I read about the 4170 one night and ordered next day! I can see it was a smart move on my part A quick question - when changing versions, is new calibration required? I moved my old calibration files from old folder to new folder and they "seem" to be good. I did run a couple of new calibration runs, but didn't seem to change anything. Thank you again for the GREAT product and even GREATER support. 73 de Ken H>

Hi Ken, You can still use your cal files. I make every effort to keep the cal data compatible from one version to the next. Some people have libraries of cal files and it would be inconvenient for them if the format became obsolete. It may be necessary to change the format some day but there will be an indication to let the user know the cal file format has changed.
Each AIM has a unique id code that is saved with its cal file so if there are several AIM's in the same work area, they will not get mixed up and try to use each other's cal files.

Just a short note to say "D" fixed it! Distance to Fault now stays on top as it should. It would be interesting to know if I am the only person with that problem.
Thank you again.
