Had some problems with custom cal on build 824. All ok when 4170 calibrated on the output port, but using custom cal thru a length of RG58 has produced errors. The cal progresses normally until it is saved then the cal check will throw up an error. The cal was for 30 to 70 Mhz and various step sizes have been tried. The error reads Custom cal point is out of range, freq =66.3 ndx=183 numcalpts =183. The program allows you to save and if you now run a scan, the prog reports that the cal file is missing and the instrument needs to be calibrated. If the program is closed and restarted and the cal file reloaded. The instrument scans but stop at 66 Mhz. I have tried this on two computers, one running XP and the other Win 7 Home premium 64 bit. If the proceedure is carried out using build 700C all works as expected on both operating systems. Has any one else had this problem and your comments Bob would be appreciated Thank you Mike G3YPE

Hi Mike, I haven't been able to duplicate this problem. Please send me by email the start, stop and step freqs you are using as well as the standard resistor value and the length of the coax.
It would be interesting to see a screen shot of a scan of the unterminated coax when using standard cal.

I'm having trouble with 824 also. The Custom Cal does not seem to work. My unit is an original 4170, not A/B or C. I get an error "data point out of range". How can that ever happen? Maybe I'm confused. Also, in custom cal it used to use the number of steps set with the Limits. Now, it ignores that value and calibrates with the same number of points as standard cal.

I found a problem in custom cal and it has been updated. I'm adding some new features too. The new program will be posted this weekend.
Thanks to everyone for their feedback.
