Hello,
I have a problem and need to reach out for assistance.
Here is what works….
1. AIM4170 Analyzer via RS232-straight-thru-cable to the RS232 port on a Dell desktop Dimension 110 running XP.
2. AIM4170 Analyzer via RS232-straight-thru-cable to a Keyspan USB-to-RS232 adapter p/n USA-19HS to a USB-port on a Dell desktop Dimension 110 running XP.
Here is the problem….
3. AIM4170 Analyzer via RS232-straight-thru-cable to a Keyspan USB-to-RS232 adapter p/n USA-19HS to a USB-port on a Dell laptop Inspiron 1525 running Vista; AIM reports error 13272 about I/O problem; similar report trying a different USB-port; similar report whenever redoing the tests starting from a complete power-down of all parts; also tried disabling Vista's User-Account-Control.
Comments….
a) The COMM-port is properly set-up as needed in AIM and Keyspan.
b) I emailed Keyspan-TechSupport with the above facts and my conclusion that I thought their device was not handling Vista properly.
c) They gave me a test to try out the adapter connected to the USB-port and it passed. So they point a finger at the AIM device.
d) Bob W3BIG, pleased that AIM is working in one set-up, suggested posting to this site after I wrote that I’d post my problem in eham.net.
e) I have subsequently found out via Microsoft’s website that the driver supplied with Keyspan’s adapter (made by Triplite) is certified to be ok with Vista.
f) The Keyspan test in “c” above has nothing to do with the RS232-connector on the adapter; it is left unconnected during Keyspan’s special test.
So I’m asking myself what can I do to see if that section of the circuitry is working ok.
I’d found out from www.camiresearch.com/Data_Com_Basics/New_Cable_pdfs/2.pdf there is something called a “loop-back” which seems to me to be what I want but don’t know how to write any code for this.
g) same RS232-straight-thru-cable used for all tests; also verified by ohm-meter it is a straight-thru-cable.
h) As for coding capability, I’ve extensive experience writing Basic code, primarily to control test-equipments via HPIB (IEEE-488).
i) Vista does not have HyperTerminal.
Please comment freely on my problem.
Only just don’t say the obvious that my mistake was getting Vista. hi!hi!
