Good day. I am new to the forum. I recently bought the 4170C from Bob at Array Solutions and, boy, am I impressed!
But, I cannot get the voice output to work, nor the CW or tones. No audio output. I have checked and double checked that my speakers are on and that I have the right things checked in the Setup tab. I have tried it on an XP and a Windows 7 machine. Nothing. All else works great...no problems. I am using an FTDI chipset USB to serial cable and no glitches or intermittent communication.
I know I am doing something stupid. But, not being a smart guy, I cannot figure out what it is.
Secondly, I upgraded the firmware to the latest version. I am unclear as to whether the files from the new firmware are supposed to be in a totally new and separate folder from the original firmware folder created when I first got the AIM. Or, despite the fact there are fewer files in the latest firmware upgrade, should I just create a new file folder for the newest firmware. Right now, I have the original folder with the original firmware files and then I added a new folder to that one for the latest firmware upgrade and all seems to be working but I have not tested all functions either.
Any assistance would be deeply appreciated. Again, one hell of a piece of work --- I love this AIM 4170C.

Well, with some more concentrated due diligence on my part, all is good. The tones and Morse are working. It took a re-boot of both computers and a few tweaks here and there. The COM ports were correct but I ended up updating the drivers for my USB to Serial cables. And, I made some adjustments to the sound card parameters. I was consulting the most current version of the manual. As an aside, and this is likely known by all of you, but in case, the AIM software works just fine with Windows 7 but I found that the use of an FDTI chipset USB to serial connection seems 100% reliable. On the other hand, I tried a Gigabyte, KeySpan and Prolific cable and there were occasional glitches when the scan would not complete and you would have to try again and again. So, for whatever my comments are worth.
