I recieved my 4170C yesterday and installed ther software on a HP i7 running Vista64 with 12GB of ram and USB to serial adapter. The software is in installed in the x86 program directory and is set to run under XP emulation and files are unlocked.
During the calibration process the the software locked up during the 50 ohm segement forcing a hard reboot as the task manager was unable to close the program. On the second attempt the system calibrated properly.
Later when using the software after running several scans the system crashed with a core dump message. The system recovered after the dump and reboot. Then it did it again during a full freq scan of my antenna, a HV9V with 160M coil. The setting on that scan included at the antenna.
Any thoughts on the possible culprit or fix's?
Thanks Rick-KT9B

Hi Rick, You may be able to run the AIM directly in Vista. I use an adapter with the FTDI chip and it works with Vista Home Premium which is 64bits. I also run it with Win2000. The AIM has been used sucessfully by a lot of people with XP, including netbook computers. I think the adapter is the key thing. Make sure you have the latest driver from FTDI: www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm. 2.04.16 is probably the one you need. -- Bob

Bob: Is the adapter you sold with the AIM one with the chip? If so the driver doesn't seem to work at all. Vista identifies the driver needed being from prolific technologies, the packaging itself says nothing. RW-KT9B

That adapter works with some computers but not with others. It seems to be ok with Win 2K and XP but it doesn't always work with Vista. Some people found it wasn't mechanically rugged enough for their applications and it is not as robust as the FTDI chip.
Further down the Array Solutions price list there is a Vista-rated adapter for $34. This one does have the FTDI chip and it's more rugged.
