I have Downloaded the Sept 09 (685) program and unzipped it to a new folder I created as instructed in the Full manual . I next Used Control-A ,Then right clickd_Properties,Then Unchecked read only, and selected (All files in this folder) Then Apply then Ok. All looked good. However when I look at this folder properties afterwards it has not changed and the files remain "Read Only". Now when I attempt to load additional Calibration Files (Error Message instructs to Change The files from read only)! I am using a Acer Netbook/ XP, SP3/ and have the latestes updates. The program controls/displays otherwise normal. Is there something I am doing or not doing Incorrectly? 73 Paul

Hi Paul,
I don't know exactly what causes this unless you have the files on a write protected drive. Does your Acer have a solid state drive? The files in the zip package that you download from the web are not ever marked as read-only. Only the files from CD's are read-only.
When you calibrate, give the cal file a new name and it will always be saved. If you get an error message indicating the file was not saved, then either your memory is full (this is rare but it has happened on a flash drive) or the drive is write protected.
The *.ini file does have to have its read only flag cleared because the file always has the same name.
Some of the new versions of Windows don't like to save files in certain folders unless you have administrator privileges.

Hi Bob, The Acer Is About 6 Months old with a Standard 160 GB SATA HD. There are no other file save issues ever encountered. Is it necessary to have the Original Program (On Cd) that came with the 4170 Prior to downloading and unzipinng_Installing the VER .685? That is about the only thing I have not tried Yet. I will check the .ini_ flag. Again the Cal Procedure works only on the First Save. any subsequent attempts result in the error message .acal file cannot be saved to a read protected folder and the note to uncheck the read only box in this folder. Paul.

Hi Paul,
You don't need to have the CD. The latest program files are on my website and they are standalone. If you have several versions of the AIM program on a PC, you can switch from one to another with no problem.
It is usually better to put them in their own folder with their own ini and cfg files, because occassionaly (not often), the format of these files change.
The program should run on a flash drive, if you want to try it on another computer. (It will even run on a floppy disk.) In that case, you just have to use the device manager to find the comm port number.
