I've made a new version of the AIM program with the very same features as version 565. This will run on computers with smaller screens. The size can be specified in the config file. (the parameters are at the bottom of the file). This has the same functionality as version 565. It doesn't have any new features (yet), so right now this is of interest only to those who would like to use a physically smaller computer with the AIM. I tested it down to as small as 640x480 and the display still looks good (at least on my computer, hi). This is a beta test. Give it a try and if you see any glitches, send me a screen shot. The address for the zip file is: w5big.com/AIM_601x.zip73/ Bob

Thanks Bob. This is a big help. Not only does it work on smaller screens, but you can also expand the graph to better fill larger screens.
Playing with sizes a bit, I found it to work reasonably well down to about 480x400, although some text at the top starts to overlay other text. Ignoring this, the graph itself seems to draw okay at even smaller sizes, although when the screen is so narrow that the menu bar wraps, the AIM buttons at the bottom of the screen almost get pushed off the screen entirely. When the screen gets shorter than about 400 the file names listed at the lower right start to drop off the bottom. Perhaps varying the font size might even allow it to work rather well down to 320x200, although my concern, operation at 800x480, has been addressed by the current version.

(the parameters are at the bottom of the file). I have just (re)discovered this, but only now realized how useful it is when accessing AIM remotely from my little Linux eeePC with its 7-inch screen. By trial and error, I've set the screen width to 790 pixels and the height to 450 in the .cfg file. With these settings the AIM window fits the eeePC screen perfectly -- not having to scroll up/down and left/right any more in the field has made a big difference to usability. -- 73 Ian, G3NRW
