I actually used to know the answer to this question, but the other day it escaped from memory in the field, looking in the help file, said it could be done but didn't show the syntax. I tried many variations but none seemed to work on Ver 9.10A.
So here's the question: What is the proper syntax when you want to to set the Zref to a complex value?
I've done this before, and now I can't remember how! Alan

Hi Alan,
Examples of the format:
R + jX R-jX R+Xj R-Xi R + iX
You can use either i or j. The value that appears on the right side of the screen will always use a "j". The i or the j can be entered before or after the X value. Spaces are optional too. The value of R will always be positive.

Humm, Okay, now I can't explain it.. Actually at the time, I probably tried all of those. As I'm writing this I just pulled the AIM and computer out and set it up on the bench. I opened 9.10A and I still couldn't add a complex J factor. So I pulled up an older version (8.65) and it worked just like it's supposed to. I figured I'd run through several older versions (yes I keep the old versions) and see where it stopped working. Well it worked all the way back to and including 9.10A. Pulled up 9.10B and it didn't work, went back to 9.10A and it was still working. Just to verify, I was closing each version before opening the next. I then went back to 9.10B and now it's working. So now it's working just as you would expect it to on all versions. So as of right now I can't explain why it wasn't or even point to a reason why it didn't. I currently don't use 9.10B because it gives me readings that are totally out in left field, and I haven't taken the time to figure out why just yet. So for now, I guess I'll just call it one of those weird computer things that it's not worth the time or effort to figure out. Alan KD4QOF
